Oklahoma officials say financial assistance to help pay this winter's heating bills is now available for those who qualify.

Starting Tuesday, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services began taking applications.

The agency says it has $8-million in federal money for this year's Winter Heating Program.

For those who already receive public assistance, DHS says they should have already received a letter stating they are pre-authorized for the program and thus do not need to wait in line at their local DHS office.  Others have received an application in the mail stating they may qualify, but still need to send the application back to DHS.

Financial assistance is based on an applicant's income.

"We'll be accepting applications until the money is exhausted," Stacey Chadwell, Tulsa County OKDHS director said.

Everyone who signs up should bring their most recent heating bill, ID, social security number and verification of income for everyone living in the home.

For more information visit the Oklahoma Department of Human Services's website or your county DHS office.
