Chipotle confirmed that three Oklahomans sickened by E.Coli ate at the restaurant’s Norman location on Campus Corner.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, five people have been identified in the new outbreak, including one in Kansas, one in North Dakota and three in Oklahoma. It says those illnesses started between Nov. 18 and Nov. 26, and all five said they ate at a Chipotle the week before they got sick.

According to a news release, Chipotle confirmed that three people sickened in Oklahoma ate at 765 Asp Ave. in Norman.

The State Health Department told News 9 two of those sickened after eating at Chipotle in Oklahoma are from Cleveland County, and the other one is from Canadian County.

Chipotle company officials send News 9 this statement,

"We have indicated before that we expected that we may see additional cases stemming from this, and CDC is now reporting some additional cases. Since this issue began, we have completed a comprehensive reassessment of our food safety programs with an eye to finding best practices for each of the ingredients we use. We are now in the process of implementing those programs, including high resolution testing of ingredients, end of shelf-life testing of ingredients, continuous improvement in the supply system based on testing data, and enhanced food safety training for all of our restaurant teams. With all of these programs in place, we are confident that we can achieve a level of food safety risk that is near zero.

Additional information about enhancements to our food safety programs is available here.

There are no plans to close that [Norman] store, or any others. It is important to note that the most recent visit of any of these cases was a month ago (Nov. 23). While these cases are newly reported, they are not really new, but represent a lag in reporting between state health departments and the CDC."
