A 27-year-old man who was arrested after a standoff and shooting was charged Tuesday.

Marcus Runnels is facing a first-degree murder charge and one count of shooting with intent to kill.

Police arrested Runnels after a fatal shooting in the 1300 block of North Birmingham Place near Lewis. They said he reportedly fired a shotgun from about 50 yards, twice, and hit the victim once.

Police determined Runnels was driving a 1998 green-colored Saturn and found it outside a home in the 3000 block of East Woodrow near Harvard.

They said when Runnels refused to come out the department’s special operations team was called and surrounded the home. Runnels eventually surrendered.
