Weekend Rains Bring Flood Threat To Eastern Oklahoma

The News On 6 WARN team says a storm system heading to the state is expected to bring heavy rain and potential for severe flooding across eastern Oklahoma this weekend, 

The National Weather Service office in Tulsa all that rain could potentially lead to dangerous flooding conditions.

A flash flood watch will likely be issued for much of eastern Oklahoma this weekend.    

News On 6 meteorologists says all this rain could lead to flooding especially south and east of Interstate-44.

Ed Fite, administrator of the Oklahoma Scenic River Commission, says major flooding is possible this weekend in the Illinois River Basin in northeastern Oklahoma. 

In a news release, Fite says forecasts show the heaviest rainfall will begin early morning Saturday and continue thru Sunday.   He says the vast-majority of the river basin is expected to receive somewhere between 4 to 8 inches total precipitation. 

And some areas may receive rainfall exceeding 8 inches.
