"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is smashing records at the box office and kept theaters busy in Tulsa over the holidays. The latest reports indicate it has now surpassed "Titanic" as the second highest-grossing film of all time.

One Tulsa fan took his love for the movie to the next level by building one of the popular movie characters.

Jeff Barnes created a droid modeled after one that had about 15 seconds of fame in Episode One: R2-D3.

Jeff is part of a small group of movie fans who build iconic droids for fun.

"I've been a fan forever, you know? The opportunity presented itself, and I was like why not?" said Jeff Barnes, droid builder.

Barnes had to put this droid together from ground up. His R2 is made up of Styrene and resin. It weighs around 100 pounds.

It took Barnes more than a year to build it.

"Now that the new movie is out, there's probably going to be more," he said.

Barnes' co-workers really aren't phased by it chirping around the office anymore.

Is this the droid we're looking for?

"Yeah, it is actually. It's the only droid in the Brady Arts District, I can tell you that," Barnes said.

When the droid isn't parked in Barnes' office, he takes it all across the country to Comic Cons and fan gatherings.

His droid even earned some street cred - it was signed by none other than Luke Skywalker.

Jeff loves the new movie and said he's in the process of building a class R2-D2 blue droid.
