The warming trend will commence today and Thursday before turning cooler Friday into the weekend.   The next system arriving late Thursday night into Friday morning will bring a slight chance for a few showers to part of eastern OK but the window of opportunity will remain rather small.   The weekend will feature a return to colder air but this morning’s data has trended slightly warmer compared to previous runs for Saturday across NE OK.   We have continued to slowly fine tune our forecast for the weekend into early next week.  Two disturbances may provide some snow showers to the state this weekend.  The 2nd one would have a slight chance of getting into the eastern third of the region.

Temperatures are starting in the 20s this morning with mostly clear sky and light winds.    A surface ridge of high pressure will be located east of the state and our winds will respond from the southwest around 10 mph today.   Sunshine should remain the dominate feature with little cloud cover and slightly warmer air will arrive from the southwest with afternoon highs in mid-50s.    The temperatures Thursday morning will start in the mid to upper 30s near 40 and may push in to the lower or mid-60s before the next system arrives Thursday night.

Low level moisture will increase across the area Thursday with increasing clouds along with south winds at 10 to 20 mph.   By the evening hours, we’ll start seeing some spotty showers or even a few small thunderstorms attempting to develop across the extreme eastern third of the state.   This morning’s data is not very robust with precip chances.   I’ll probably lower to a 10% chance for the east.   A surface area of low pressure will move from the west to east across far eastern OK with an associated cold front moving across Oklahoma Friday midday afternoon.   Temperatures Friday will top-out in the around 50 but will turn cooler by early evening with falling temperatures into the overnight hours.

The weekend starts in the mid-20s and daytime highs will end in the lower 40s Saturday and possibly the upper 30s Sunday before another surge of colder air will arrive along with the first of two disturbances.   The first one, Saturday morning moves from northwest OK into the south-central part of the state with a chance of snow.   The 2nd arrives sometime Sunday night into Monday morning and may be closer to eastern OK.   This one would bring a chance of some snow across the area.   The run to run consistency is poor.   Additional changes should be anticipated for these periods of the forecast, but for now, we will include a chance for some snow Sunday night into Monday morning.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
