A warm up is in store for northeast Oklahoma this weekend and after the past several cold days, it will be welcomed by most!

This past week our daytime highs have stayed in the 30s and at least 9 degrees below normal.

Stubborn clouds were hanging on Saturday morning and they have aided, but also inhibited some of the warming that was expected.

Temperatures bottomed out at 29 degrees late Friday in Tulsa and stayed put for 12 hours.

Clouds should begin to thin Saturday afternoon but some passing high clouds should stay with us as a system to our west tries to take shape. With that system taking shape, winds will increase late Saturday and early Sunday.

Southwest winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour on Sunday will make for a warm and windy day. There is a slight fire danger threat for Sunday.

This next system will bring a cool front through and also a chance for showers. The cool front should move through Sunday morning and even though there is enough moisture to produce some showers, it’s still not a lot of moisture.

Folks southeast of Tulsa have the best chance of seeing rain on Monday because the moisture content is higher in those areas.

Cooler air will be in place for the start of this coming work week but then it warms up again. It might even feel more like March instead of January by next weekend.

The overall temperature trend is warming but there will still be systems come through that will remind us, it’s still winter.
