Alan Crone's Weather Blog: The Warm-Up Begins

We’re in for a nice stretch of weather for the next few days including a robust warm-up into the weekend.   The south winds will be increasing Friday and noticeably Saturday.   Dry vegetation and low humidity will combine with the gusty wind leading to increasing fire danger issues across the state.   While a few upper troughs and disturbances will near the area over the next few days, it’s the Monday night or Tuesday system that will bring rain or storm chances back to the area.   Much colder air will be likely with the system early next week.

Temperatures this morning will start in the 20s.   The highs today will more than likely outpace the computer suggestions and we’ve continued to trend upward with highs in the upper 50s today and the lower 60s Thursday. 

A strong area of low pressure will develop to our west this weekend with the result being the increasing south winds and warming temperatures.    Warm air will move across the region Friday into Saturday with daytime highs in the mid to upper 60s with a few lower 70s possible Saturday.

A weak front should enter the state Sunday but does not clear much of northern OK before moving back northward Sunday night as the stronger Monday system draws closer to the region.   We’ll keep our forecast intact for Sunday with lows in the lower 40s and highs around 60.   North winds around 10 mph Sunday should change back to the southeast by evening as the boundary lifts northward.  The winds will crank-up from the southeast Monday in the 20 to 30 mph range with increasing clouds.

The strong system is likely to move across the region sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning with a chance of showers or thunderstorms.   The data does suggest much colder air will follow Tuesday into most of next week.   We’re not finished with winter!
