The town of Rush Springs is rallying around a Rush Springs High School freshman who’s dealing with two incredible tragedies.

Daniel Bishop, 15, is still recovering from facial, skull and spinal cord fractures he suffered in a two-car accident the morning of January 4.

Family friend Precious Hamilton was driving Daniel to school, and her 3-year-old daughter Mackenzie to the local Head Start, when she failed to yield at an intersection on Old Highway 81.

Hamilton and her daughter died in the accident.

However, doctors were able use Mackenzie’s organs to help seven other people, according to her grandfather.

“I know she would never put the kids in danger on purpose, she would never put herself in danger. I know it was an accident,” said Daniel Bishop’s legal guardian Carla Halstead.

Halstead is Daniel’s guardian, because his mother Amber Bishop died Tuesday, after a long battle with cancer.

“I feel like it’s a hurricane,” she said. “I feel like it’s 100 feet tall and keeps coming.”

Saturday afternoon and evening in Rush Springs, Fundady’s Hideaway hosted a dinner, raffle and concert fundraiser for Daniel Bishop, and the family of Precious and Mackenzie Hamilton.

A "Help Daniel S. Bishop recover" crowdfunding page has been established. Donations in his name are also being accepted at area First National Bank locations.
