The City of Claremore honored a retired chief of police and Rogers County Sheriff Monday.

Dewey "Buck" Johnson, 84, served nearly 40 years in local law enforcement.

Monday, the mayor signed a proclamation of appreciation thanking him for that service, and also for helping preserve Claremore's history.

The police department is working with Johnson to record his stories about his experiences so they can be saved for historical records.

Johnson said, "What we did during our spare time crime-fighting, we did a lot of things with charities and the kids. We really involved the police department in the community."

Johnson said his favorite memories aren't related to fighting crime, but being involved in the community.
