President Obama Signs Oklahoma Disaster Declaration For 2015 Storms

President Obama ordered federal aid to help Oklahoma after declaring a major disaster.

Funding is meant for state, tribal and local recovery efforts affected by severe winter storms and flooding between December 26, 2015, and January 5, 2016.

Counties eligible include Adair, Alfalfa, Beckham, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Cherokee, Coal, Comanche, Cotton, Craig, Custer, Delaware, Dewey, Grady, Grant, Greer, Harmon, Haskell, Hughes, Jackson, Kay, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Latimer, Major, Mayes, McCurtain, McIntosh, Noble, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Osage, Pittsburg, Pushmataha, Roger Mills, Sequoyah, Tillman, Washita and Woods.

According to a news release, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin also requested individual assistance for homeowners, renters and business owners in Adair, Cherokee, Delaware, Mayes, McCurtain, Muskogee, Ottawa, Pushmataha and Sequoyah counties. That request is still under review.

The release says preliminary assessments show 108 homes were destroyed and 99 others were damaged. It also says an estimated $48 million in infrastructure damages and response costs have been identified in the counties.

The storm resulted in more than 200,000 power outages at homes and businesses statewide, along with numerous road closures, the release says.

It also says the storm is blamed for at least four deaths and 104 injuries.
