No. 3 Oklahoma fell short in its second half comeback attempt against Texas Tech in Lubbock on Wednesday night.

Game Synopsis

Buddy Hield a.k.a Buddy Buckets scored a quick seven points out the gate to give OU a 7-4 lead.

Just minutes into the game, Hield, Isaiah Cousins and Ryan Spangler combined for 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards. At this point, the Sooners looked good as a whole but Jordan Woodard struggled to get anything to fall with an 0-for-4 start.

Hield stayed hot, tallying ten points in just seven minutes to increase OU’s advantage. Overall, the Sooners were shooting 24 percent (4-of-17).

With just under 11 minutes, Woodard finally found his rhythm, hitting back-to-back three-pointers.

Tech surged with 6:39 before the half and took a 22-20 lead over the Sooners. The Red Raiders were shooting 47 percent from the field vs. OU’s 27 percent.

Two more treys from Woodard, his eighth of the game, tied the game at 24-all. He was on fire with 13 points and five away from 1,000 in his career at OU.

Just before intermission, Tech went on an 8-0 run to carry a 34-31 lead into the locker room.

Woodard finished the half with 13 points and Hield had 12. Cousins snagged a team-high six rebounds and two assists. Ryan Spangler contributed three rebounds (831) to pass Garfield Heard into sixth place on OU’s all-time rebounding list.

Opening the second half, the Red Raiders elevated their advantage 41-37 and were dominating the Sooners in the paint 18-10. By this time, Woodard had tallied 15 points while Hield had 14, and Tech was out-rebounding the Sooners (7-2), leading in second chance points (4-0) and ruling in off the bench buckets (19-4).

Down the stretch, a few more buckets from Woodard landed him in the 1,000 point club, making him the 43rd Sooner to join the list.

Despite a tough effort in the final minutes, OU fell 65-63 to Tech in Lubbock.
