A Tulsa man is in jail, accused of being a serial burglar. Police say Dave Hughes broke into several Tulsa tool stores, stole high-end power tools then pawned them for cash.

Officers booked him on eight complaints of second-degree burglary and one complaint each of concealing stolen property, false declaration of ownership and possession of a controlled drug.

Hughes, 52, is suspected of breaking into several businesses - some more than once. Police say he targeted Dewalt and Milwaukee tools. He generally broke the glass doors of the businesses, grabbed the tools and left.

Police say he was identified through surveillance video that showed a man of his general description wearing glasses, a pinky ring and driving a red sports car. Hughes drives a Pontiac G6, according to an arrest report.

A manager at one of the businesses Hughes allegedly burglarized was able to identify him as a former employee, records show.

The following business burglaries are attributed to Hughes in the Tulsa Police arrest report:

  • 03/03/2016  CRC-Evans: shattered window and stole Dewalt tools
  • 02/28/2016  Lampton Welding Supply: shattered window and stole power tools
  • 02/22/2016  Fastenal: shattered glass door and stole Milwaukee and Dewalt power tools
  • 02/19/2016  Fastenal: broke glass front door and stole numerous Dewalt and Milwaukee tools
  • 02/17/2016 CRC-Evans: shattered front glass door and stole Dewalt tools
  • 02/15/2016 Fastenal: broke front glass door and stole numerous Dewalt and Milwaukee tools
  • 01/09/2016 Straightline Construction: pried open the front door and stole Dewalt tools and accessories
  • 01/06/2016  C&C Wholesale: pried open the front door and stole a Dewalt saw
  • 12/26/2015 United Rentals: stole several power tools

During the course of their investigation, Tulsa Police say they put a tracking device on Hughes' car. It showed he was at one of the businesses at the time of a burglary. They also found a bandage on the floor of one business that they believe Hughes had been wearing on his thumb.

Police say they recovered a coat that was stolen in one burglary in Hughes' home. When they went to arrest the Tulsa man, he threw a clear plastic baggie containing rocks of crack cocaine, according to the arrest report.
