Fan Fest Gets Drillers, Roughnecks Die-Hards Amped Up For Season

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Fans who can't wait for Tulsa's baseball and soccer seasons to start again got a treat on Saturday.

The Drillers and Roughnecks held their annual Fan Fest open house celebration at ONEOK Field.

Besides getting autographs from Tulsa Roughnecks players, 5-year-old Max Burwell's plan for the day was simple.

“Just have fun,” he said.

Getting signatures was also a treat for 11-year-old Lily Stuckey, who plays soccer herself.

"It's cool cause they play out on the field and I get to meet them," she said.

All morning and afternoon, kids practiced their own skills, hung out with their favorite mascot.

But it's possible the adults had even more fun.

Like the Shipmans, who were among the first in line to get into the stadium.

They say they're ready for the Drillers' season to start.

"The hot dogs, the excitement, fireworks,” John Shipman said. “Yeah, the fireworks on those Friday nights or Saturday nights. The whole bit."

Dennis McDonald made Fan Fest his yearly tradition. He's been coming to Drillers games for the last six seasons.

"We come out today to pick up the tickets, have a few hot dogs and a soda or two, and just enjoy the park, just meet with people we haven't seen since last season,” McDonald said. “It's a great day."

The Drillers' home opener is on April 14. The Roughnecks' season starts March 26.
