TULSA, Oklahoma -

A tornado watch has been issued for several southeast Oklahoma counties and west-central Arkansas until 7 p.m. Counties named in the watch include LeFlore, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Pittsburg and Sequoyah.

The watch is in effect for areas along and south of Interstate 40 as a few severe storms will be possible, primarily in southeast Oklahoma. The Tulsa metro is not included in the Tornado Watch.

A potent upper-level storm system is swinging across Oklahoma today and bringing with it enough energy to produce more showers and some storms. This won’t be an all-day washout, but there’s a good chance you’ll get some use out of the umbrella or the rain gear by the end of the day.

Scattered showers will develop primarily from Tulsa to the west and north this morning with some moderate rain and occasional lightning possible. As that quick-moving storm system gets closer from lunchtime into the afternoon, some scattered storms are expected to develop.

The best chances for showers and storms this afternoon will start to slowly shift from Tulsa to the north and east. Mostly cloudy skies will keep our instability somewhat low, but a few severe storms will still be possible this afternoon into early evening, particularly just east and southeast of Tulsa into far eastern and far southeastern Oklahoma.

Hail and damaging winds will be the main threats with any severe storms that develop in addition to locally heavy rain and frequent lightning.

Showers and storms will move off to the east by this evening into Arkansas with some clearing skies by tonight, leading us into a big-time warm-up Monday (how ‘bout some low 80s!!) to kick off spring break week!
