Sapulpa Police are investigating the death of a toddler as a possible drowning. The Sapulpa toddler who went missing on Sunday afternoon died at a local hospital on Sunday night.

Lieutenant Fred Clark with the SPD said the child’s mother found him about two hours after he went missing.

According to police, the boy was found unresponsive about 200 yards from his home in a wooded area. His mother found him next to a pond and told officers her son liked to wander around there.

Officers tell us they don't know if he had been in the water.

The child was supposed to be napping, but when his father went to check on him, he was missing, so he called police. The mother wasn’t home at the time, police said.

About 20 people searched for the child. First responders were seen performing CPR on him after he was found.

Attempts to revive him continued at the hospital, but they were unsuccessful.

"All of us have families and kids, so yeah, these are tough calls you have to deal with," Clark said. "We had enough people here to have a good search. One or two people in a wooded area, you're not going to cover a lot of area. So we had 20 people here, starting a good search. Mom just happened to have a good idea of where he went."
