Citywide Baby Shower Nets More Than $17,000 In Goods For Nonprofit

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Emergency Infant Services held a citywide baby shower Saturday to get donations for everything from baby food to diapers.

People donated diapers, clothes and baby formula at drop boxes across the metro area.

"I'm just doing my bit to help out," donor Joey Pickering said.

The goods funneled Emergency Infant Services are shared with families who need help caring for newborns.

By the end of the day on Saturday, EIS had received $17,392 worth of in-kind goods.

One of the items most in demand is diapers.

“We give close to a million diapers out each year to 17,000 kids, and so this drive literally helps us stock our shelves for the year so we can be able to provide these goods and services to our clients," EIS Executive Director Tom Taylor said.

Taylor says each family that qualifies can get 50 diapers up to four times a year and federal assistance programs don't cover the cost.

“We take donations all year long, this just kind of brings it out into the city and kind of like saying, 'hey help us out,' with people who are trying to make the ends meet," Taylor said.

Taylor said when the center is closed, you can contact 2-1-1 and they'll point you to a local Tulsa fire station that will help put together and distribute crisis care packages.
