JENKS, Oklahoma -

Firefighters in Jenks battled a large house fire in the 100 block of G Street Friday morning.

Assistant Chief Greg Ostrum said as crews tried to get inside the house they heard ammunition going off so they had to fight it in a defensive mode from the outside.

"As we attempted to try to make entry and we were notified that there was ammunition inside the home, as the crews attempted to start to make entry they could hear the ammunition going off in the inside, so at that point we pulled out and went to defensive on this fire," explained Ostrum.

He said it was a challenging fire because the house was large and had been added onto over the years.

"It's a larger fire; it's a larger structure," said Ostrum. "The structure has many different additions added on to it, which makes it a little more challenging because you have different void spaces, different rooms added on that aren't from the original space,"

A person who was in the home said he went to sleep with a gas fireplace still burning. He said he woke up with his cousin yelling at him to get out. No one was hurt.

The Glenpool Fire Department also helped fight the fire.
