Tornado Damages Church, Power Lines In North Tulsa

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

A funnel touched down in north Tulsa near Mohawk Park on Wednesday evening. Osage SkyNews6 HD caught the lowering and followed it as it stayed on the ground for several minutes.

We have seen a lot of debris and power lines in the roads and even vehicles that were smashed by trees and some have reported power outages.

Authorities are urging people to stay away from the area as public safety departments respond and electrical lines are down.

The City of Tulsa is currently responding and Tulsa’s Emergency Operation Center is activated.

At this time, roads are closed from 46th St. North from Peoria to Martin Luther King. Tulsa Police and Tulsa Fire are canvassing an area from 49th Street North and Tisdale to 49th Street and Xanthus and 43rd Street North and Tisdale to 43rd Street North and Xanthus.

PSO is reporting 5,800 customers are currently without power in Tulsa and anticipates 4,500 of those will have power restored by midnight. They said the remaining outages are expected to be restored by 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

EMSA has reported seven patients have been transported to local hospitals. Most calls have resulted in serious injuries and there is one critical patient.

Our crew has seen a lot of damage near 46th & Garrison, including to the St. Paul AME church building, which lost a lot of its roof.

Minutes after the north Tulsa touch down, another tornado ripped through Owasso. Our storm trackers also spotted lowerings in Verdigris and Claremore.
