TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa residents woke up to their longtime home on fire Sunday morning. The home near 61st and Harvard has heavy damage, but all four people got out safely.

"Everybody's OK," said Chris Cooper, who grew up in the home and was there with his parents and fiance when the fire broke out. "That's the most important thing, absolutely."

Cooper said his fiance, Sally Fullam, smelled smoke and woke him up. When he got outside, his father was already up and trying to put the fire out.

They called Tulsa Fire Department which arrived on scene in just a few minutes, he said.

"We just got on it, got our dogs out, got us out," he said.

Cooper, his fiance, parents and four dogs made it out safely.

District Chief Jon Steiner said they believe the fire started in the attic near the garage.

"The attic fires can be difficult, primarily because of access," he said. After some difficulty getting into the attic, they got the fire out using a ladder truck.

Steiner said there was a bit of a close call involving a firefighter, but no one was injured.

They remained on scene making sure the fire didn't continue spreading to any other parts of the house.

Cooper said it was hard to see the house where he grew up damaged by fire. His parents were shaken up as well, he said.

"It's very difficult - it's been kind of overwhelming right now," he said. "They're doing a fantastic job," he said of firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
