TULSA, Oklahoma -

Around 50 University of Oklahoma's Urban Design School students toured the west bank of the Arkansas River in Tulsa on bicycles Monday.

The students are looking possible river bank development sites in Tulsa and will take the lead in a project called "Visions for the West River Bank."

They were looking at proposals for developments on city-owned property on the west side of the river around Turkey Mountain all the way up to 11th Street. One idea includes a velodrome and cyclocross track. Other ideas were for retail development.

The students were touring from site to site, trying to figure out what plan they could conceptualize to develop the areas.

Malcolm McCollam of Tulsa Tough and Soundpony's Mike Wozniak led the tour. Students were fitted on bikes from the Tulsa Hub.

"We've been working hard on how we can continue to achieve our mission of elevating the profile of Tulsa. So, what we settled on was we need more facilities to keep attracting and retaining the young talent that we have," McCollam said.

The students are going to go back and create some designs to figure out what's going to go in the places on the west side of the Arkansas River. On May 12, they plan to hold an exhibit in downtown Tulsa to show some of their designs to the city of Tulsa.
