Thunderstorms, Hail Pose Severe Weather Threat For NE Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Severe thunderstorms could threaten parts of Green Country Sunday evening.

Two areas of storms will continue to develop in the region.  A cold front slowly moving south towards the Oklahoma-Kansas line will be a focus for strong to severe thunderstorms with a large hail and high wind threat into the nighttime hours.

Initially, the storm threat will be confined to areas just north of the Tulsa metro area. By mid-late evening, storms may form and move over the I-44 corridor.

The other area of storms will continue to push eastward from western Oklahoma.  These will also pose a hail and high wind threat. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for parts of the area until midnight, but the threat for severe storms will carry on into early Monday morning.  Areas north of I-40 may encounter a few rounds of strong to severe storms by sunrise Monday.
The threat for severe storms shifts to southeast Oklahoma by midday Monday into the afternoon hours. A hail, high wind and tornado threat will accompany storms along and south of the southward-moving cold front.

Rain and thunder may occur into Monday afternoon around Tulsa, but the severe threat will end Monday morning for the metro area.

All thunderstorms should exit the area by Monday evening as cooler, drier air settles into the region.
