Wet roads were blamed for a lot of wrecks around Tulsa Monday, including a semi-truck that dangled off the I-44 overpass at 129th East Avenue.

Troopers said the driver hit a retaining wall and jack-knifed.

No one was hurt.

A mile down the road from that; another semi - hauling about 90 head of cattle - jack-knifed, rolled over and left quite a mess near Catoosa.

The majority of the cattle were rescued from the trailer at 145th East Avenue, but some were found in neighborhoods where cowboys had to come out and wrangle them.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the heavy rain and high speeds caused the driver of the semi to lose control and roll over at the 145th East Avenue overpass Monday morning.

Spooked cattle ran into neighborhoods and nearby parking lots trying to get away from the trailer.

Troopers said the trailer held about 90 head of cattle; when it burst open, more than 20 escaped.

“I come out to get my newspaper and I looked up and here come five coming toward me," said neighbor Edward Patterson.

Patterson worked with his neighbor to wrangle the calves into his backyard.

Troopers said they got reports from all around the crash scene about loose cattle.

"I couldn't believe it, they were coming down the street and I thought, ‘what in the world,'" Patterson said.

Not all the cattle made it out - some were trapped in the trailer and died.

Police said crews rounded up the surviving cattle and held them at the nearby stockyards.
