Two aging veterans stand at the entrance to the Skiatook airport, and a community project is breathing new life into the aging aircraft.

Project manager, Gary Lanham said, "For the city, it gives pride to the airport and all the vendors who are out here. It looks good for the city and the community."

One is a T-33A Starfighter, the other is a T-37 Cessna - both were trainers used by the Air Force, but Lanham said he's not sure how long they've been there.

"I'm gonna say approximately 15 years. No one seems to be able to put an exact date to it," he said.

But long enough they need a little sprucing up.

So they've assembled a group of community volunteers, including some students from Spartan; and on good weather weekends they get together.

Lanham said the group assured the city they could do the project with the corporate sponsors they'd assembled and volunteer labor - so far it's working.

It’s a labor of love to give a couple of aging vets their old luster.

They hope to have the project finished in October.
