Adam Fleming and his family recently moved into their new home in Jenks and knew they needed protection from severe weather.

Fleming says he and his family realized they needed a storm shelter from day one.

“When we were talking with our builders, it was upfront; 'hey we know we want to put in a storm shelter,’" he explained.

Fleming says he and his wife went storm shelter shopping at the home and garden show.

He says after looking at all the models he chose a model that goes right in his garage.

Crews started by cutting a hole in the concrete floor. From there, the shelter slid right in.

About 10,000 lbs of concrete fill the sides.

The shelter looks like a capsule, but the inside plastic lining makes it resistant to wear and tear from the environment.

And to close the shelter, a heavy duty lid slides right over the top.

Fleming says getting a shelter for his wife and two kids was a no-brainer.

“We live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, so having that peace of mind from being safe from the environment and the weather," he stated.

In ground models can range from $2,600 to $4,000. And if you already have a storm shelter, get them registered with your local municipality or emergency management office.
