Joyriding Teens Lead Chickasha Police On High-Speed Chase

Teens stole their parent’s car and led police on a high-speed chase through town overnight, but police say it looks like they took a lot more.

It was about 2:30 a.m. and as Margie Akins slept, police were on patrol.

“They were looking for vehicles that might be involved in vandalisms or burglaries as we’ve had several of those reported,” Chickasha Police Maj. Shanon McClain said.

That's when they spotted a car parked in the street. Two people were inside, and another was standing near it. That person took off running, and the other two took off in the car.

“The vehicle wouldn’t stop, ran through a couple of different stop signs and crossed over a highway,” McClain said.

The teens then jumped railroad tracks before barreling down a dead end road where Akins lives.

“About that time I heard sirens,” she said. “We’ve been having storms, and I thought we were in a tornado watch.”

There were no tornados, just a couple of kids on a joyride in their parent’s car.

“They turned, and they were going to do down and they saw fences,” she said. “So they turned around and went right in my yard and up back around here and run into the fence.”

They had nowhere to go now but in the mud. Police say they found $300 of "replica money" "stolen property" and one of the teens told officers he had "marijuana in his pants." Police detained all three teens.

As for Akins...

“They went and come talk to me and told me that they had got them in custody and that I could go back to sleep,” she said.

The teens are facing charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, attempting to elude police, no valid driver’s license and knowingly concealing stolen property.
