Tulsa Fire Department Battles Apartment Fire

Tulsa Fire Department battled an apartment fire at 71st Street and U.S. Highway 169. Eight units have damage and one family has nowhere to stay after the fire ripped straight through the roof.

The Eagle Point Apartments caught fire after 3 p.m. on Friday. From the Osage SkyNews 6 HD, we could see a hole in the roof from where the fire burned through the attic.

Firefighters said they believe it started on the balcony and spread fast.

When crews got on scene, flames were billowing from the apartment. They were able to get there fast enough to keep the flames from spreading, although several units will have smoke and water damage.

Over five engines were dispatched. Firefighters said whenever there is an apartment fire the risk is it will spread to multiple units, so they try to have more than enough help.

One neighbor we spoke to said he warned his neighbors when he saw the fire. Travis Busby said he felt the fire’s warmth two units away.

"I could smell it from inside the apartment. And even though it wasn't directly next to mine; I could actually feel it from the furthest room in my apartment. I could feel the heat through the building it was pretty insane," he said.

The power has been cut to the building so some people will spend the night away until it's back on.

No one was hurt.
