The White House says a Midwest City police major is among 13 public safety officers who will be awarded the Medal of Valor.
In a news release, Major David Huff will receive the honor for "uncommon poise in resolving a dangerous hostage situation." Huff is credited with saving the life of a 2-year-old girl who was being held captive at knifepoint in June 2013.

The Medal of Valor is awarded to public safety officers who have exhibited exceptional courage - regardless of personal safety - in the attempt to save or protect others from harm.
The Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor is the highest national award for valor presented to a public safety officer.
President Obama will present the medals on Monday.
