Monday, Tulsa Public Schools gave some new details on how cutting 142 teachers will impact classrooms.

The district's chief of staff, Paula Shannon, told the school board the cuts will raise class sizes to 32 students on average in high schools.

Some language programs will be offered online, instead of with in-person teachers and individual schools are cutting back on PE, orchestra, or band.

The district said cutting $13.5 million means fewer electives.

"Again, we look at what students are interested in, and what they need, and at this point and time, what we can actually offer," Shannon said.

The cuts include 34 elementary and 84 secondary teachers - the rest are at alternative schools and in early childhood classrooms.
