Saturday marked the ten year anniversary of the Linnaeus Teaching Garden at the Tulsa Garden Center, and volunteers celebrated with an open house and festival.

"I have a shade garden and I have Hastas and Colias and they are my favorite plant," said Pat Hobbs of the Garden Center.

Hobbs loves gardening and his passion brought him to Woodward Park and the garden center several years ago.

He says the addition of the teaching garden back in 2006 has provided opportunities for kids and adults over the years to learn about horticulture.

"[You learn] what to do with your garden in the spring, what to do with your garden in the summer [and] what grows best in the fall," explained Hobbs.

The teaching garden is much like an experiment. Volunteers come in, put in different types of plants to see which ones work and which ones don't here in Oklahoma.

“It's just fun,” Hobbs added.

And this year has been great for the plants.

“With the weather this spring, the gardens have never looked as nice as they are," said Hobbs.

The garden center gave away 500 hydrangeas to visitors in honor of the anniversary. They also offered plants for sales--face painting and different activities for kids.
