BIXBY, Oklahoma - A Bixby woman was arrested on a animal cruelty complaint, leading to the removal of around 70 animals from her home at 119th and Mingo Tuesday. She has since been released on a $2,000 bond.

Yvonne McBride was keeping the medium and large breed dogs inside her residence, according to police.

Authorities said McBride was trying to run a rescue but kept taking in animals without placing them in new homes. The dogs were mostly in good health though the Humane Society of Tulsa said many of the dogs have eye, ear and skin issues., but they were left in small crates stacked throughout the home.

According to an arrest report, Bixby Police told McBride's husband months ago that the dogs would need to be moved. The animals were apparently moved to Sand Springs for a time but then brought back to the Bixby house.

The arresting officer said he and the Bixby animal control officer came to the house June 20 to follow up. They could hear the dogs barking when they knocked, but no one came to the door.

The officer said he saw Yvonne McBride strike some of the cages with a stick, apparently trying to keep the dogs quiet. He said she struck one of the dogs through the crate as well. He told her to put down the stick, and she used a rag to try to quiet the dogs, records show.

After about 30 minutes of police "continuously knocking on the front door," the report states, McBride came out through the garage and said she didn't want police to take her dogs away.

After police got permission to enter the home, officers found kenneled dogs in the dining room, living room and master bedroom. There were also four cats in a bathroom, the arrest report states.

The Humane Society of Tulsa rescued the animals from the hoarding situation and are working to find them new homes. Because the Humane Society has made several big rescues recently, they said they are in critical need of support.
