Accusations are flying in the Tulsa County sheriff’s race as the clock ticks down to Election Day.

First, it was Luke Sherman - who released an ad questioning Sheriff Vic Regalado’s campaign donations - but the sheriff is firing back.

Thursday, Regalado went negative with a new campaign ad calling out Sherman's record with the Tulsa Police Department.

Sherman said the ad, referring to a reprimand from 2009 when he was a leader on the Tulsa Police SWAT Team, is inaccurate.

“That was not my action, but my decision was to have that training week and to have that BBQ, as we had done in the past. But still, it doesn't matter. That falls on me," he said.

According to Sherman, an officer at the BBQ left and crashed his patrol car. Sherman, being the second in command, took some of the heat.

"What matters is that, as a leader, when the chips are down you stand up. And even if it causes you grief, you take responsibility and ultimately the buck stops with me," he said.

Regalado released a statement, saying:

"After weeks of my opponent’s negative campaign filled with lies, I felt it was finally time to set the record straight. My opponent was forced to take down his ad because it misrepresented the facts, but our message is 100 percent truthful. I believe voters will know the difference between truth and the lies."

Sherman continues to defend his ad against Regalado's campaign donations.
