For the 23rd year, the stars of the Tulsa sports world were out for the annual Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards.

The Tulsa Rotary Club honors a male and female winner each year. The Rotary Club says the awards are given to athletes who have excelled in their sport and have shown a desire to help others.

They were created to honor legendary basketball coach Henry Iba.

Monday night, pro Football Hall of Famer, Emmitt Smith was the keynote speaker.

"Each and every one of us, no matter who we are, no matter what size or shape we are, if we believe in ourself and fight hard, and is given the opportunity, because you can do all those things and not be given the opportunity, you're still going to be fighting. But given the opportunity to go out there and shine, that's all you can ever ask for," he said.

On the men's side the award went to Tyler Lockett. The Booker T. Washington grad is preparing for his second NFL season with the Seattle Seahawks.

He caught six touchdowns and had two return touchdowns in his rookie season which impressed some, but he knows he can do better.

"I exceeded a lot of other people's expectations, but for me, I didn't play half the ability that I thought I was able to play. That's why I'm able to go in here next year and focus on those things that I thought I struggled with," Lockett said.
