City of Tulsa residents voted for who they want to lead the city for the next four years.

Five candidates were on the non-partisan ballot Tuesday: Lawrence F. Kirkpatrick, Tom E. McCay, Paul Tay, G.T. Bynum and Dewey Bartlett.

Several former Tulsa mayors and lawmakers have thrown their support behind the two front runners, current mayor Dewey Bartlett and City Councilor G.T. Bynum.

Former Republican senator Tom Coburn and senator and former Tulsa mayor Jim Inhofe have announced support for Bartlett.

Bynum has received support from five other former Tulsa mayors – Susan Savage, Kathy Taylor, Terry Young, Dick Crawford and Robert LaFortune.

Bartlett and Bynum have faced off in several debates during the election process. Both say they want to see the city grow, but disagree on how it’s been done so far and how it should be done in the future.

The day started with some confusion as the Election Board said some of the volunteers were confused about the non-partisan ballot and some voters were denied city ballots at their precincts.

The Election Board responded by calling every precinct to make sure they were giving voters the city ballot.

If the election is contested, there is already a court date set for 9 a.m. July 6th.
