TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Police say a man shot his wife then shot himself at an east Tulsa mobile home park Tuesday morning.

Police tell News On 6 the woman was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and the man is dead of a gunshot wound.

It happened in the 10400 block of East 42nd Place, near the intersection of the Mingo Valley Expressway and Broken Arrow Expressway.

Police said the man called police around 7:15 a.m. and said a murder-suicide was about to happen. Officers arrived at the Rockwood Village Mobile Home Park at 7:21 a.m., tried to contact them by phone then forced entry into the trailer, according to Officer Leland Ashley.

They found a 69-year-old man and his 54-year-old wife shot in the home. Police said she was shot in the chest, and the man had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police said they discovered the two people in a bedroom. An officer at the scene said a shotgun was used.

"He said there was a murder-suicide and then hung up on us," Ashley said.

Police said the man died at the scene while EMSA took the woman to the hospital in critical condition.

Neighbors said they're surprised to hear about the shooting.

"It's always quiet, about all days here in the neighborhood," said resident Jaby Torres.

Officer said they're not sure if the couple had any previous disputes involving police, but they're hoping neighbors can provide insight into what led to the shooting.

"We just have to put the pieces of the puzzle together," Ashley said.

They are continuing to investigate.
