TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Tulsa homeowner said his gun and home security system helped scare off a suspicious man. He's now warning others to be on the lookout.

The homeowner filed a report with Tulsa police after he said someone came to his door early in the morning, holding a blunt object.

Police are looking into the case, but say ringing someone's doorbell at a 4 a.m. isn't a crime, but it is suspicious.

At 3:53 a.m., a man was captured on a doorbell camera holding a dark object. Video shows the man waits a while, then stashes the object and walks to a window.

"I told him to freeze right where he was or I was gonna kill him," the homeowner said.

The homeowner said, looking through the window, he came face to face with the man.

"It scared me. I was very scared for my life," he said.

Having his gun in his hand, speaking to the man through the window, the homeowner knew he would not become a victim.

"I told him to get down on his hands and knees, he got down on his hands and knees. I went to open my front door and the guy took off,” he said.

The surveillance video is on a timer so it cut off before the final exchange.

Tulsa police officer Damita Kinard said the homeowner did the right thing.

"They will open the door and engage the person on the front porch. Keep yourself safe beyond the barrier of that door," she said.

And, although the incident is unsettling, there's no crime.

Kinard said, "If there is an attempt to get in the door, that's still an attempted burglary. Him standing there just ringing the doorbell, suspicious activity is what we have."

The homeowner said when police arrived they found the man's sunglasses and a knife outside.

"He was out there to hurt someone I believe," he said.

We decided to blur the man's face because police say he did not commit a crime.

Police don't have a record of any similar activity in the area but ask citizens to report anything suspicious.
