JENKS, Oklahoma -

A community prayer rally was held Sunday night for Jenks Trojans Head Football Coach Allan Trimble.

It is a progressive, incurable disease that affects the brain, spinal cord and muscle movement.

And the community is standing with him in prayer.

The prayer vigil was held at 8 p.m. at the Frank Herald Gym, 205 East B Street in Jenks and was led by Trimble's church family -- the Park Plaza Church of Christ. Hundreds turned out to support Trimble, his wife Courtney and daughters Tylar and Tori.

The coaching staff and players found out about Trimble's ALS diagnosis last week.

ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is an incurable disease that effects the brain, spinal cord and muscle movement.

Trimble is largely known for the work he has done on the field. Since 1991, he has led the Jenks Trojans to a 13 state titles and 15 district titles and is a legend in high school football.

But people who know him best say when they think of Trimble, they think of faith, family and then football. They say he's a great coach but even better father and husband.

Although such a diagnosis is grim, people at the vigil were holding out faith that the same fight that's led Trimble and his players to success season after season will be the fight that keeps him going.

"He practices what he preaches,” Jenks student Max Waller said. “He's been in this program for a long time and he's just a great man in general.

Trimble wasn't available for comment Sunday. But school representatives say they are optimistic Trimble will continue his role as head coach this upcoming season.
