Utilities Report Thousands Without Power In Afternoon Storm

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Thursday afternoon storm knocked out power across the Tulsa area. A brief tornado warning was issued, and wind speeds clocked up to about 70 mph and carried the potential of 90 mph as it moved south and east.

About 1 p.m., PSO reported more than 12,000 customers without power in Tulsa County and a few hundred in Osage County. By 30 minutes later, that number tripled to more than 36,000 customers in the dark.

By around 2:45, that number had gone up again, with PSO reporting about 65,000 customers without power in the metro area. That, again, was increased to over 85,000 customers across the metro, along with scattered outages across Rogers, Wagoner and Osage counties.

Trees are down all over Green Country, adding to the issues.

Temperatures dropped across area as the storm moved through, cooling things off to the upper 60s.
