A Hot And Humid Week Ahead

Posted: Updated:

The heat and humidity will remain the big weather as the mid-level ridge of high pressure has reformed across the southern plains including the state of Oklahoma. This will effectively keep any major storm system away from the area for the next few days.

A few isolated storms may be possible across extreme eastern OK and western Arkansas for the next few afternoons but the chance will be near or less than 10% for any location along or east of highway 69.  These isolated storms may be possible as far east as south central OK.   A slightly higher chance may occur Tuesday and Wednesday along the far southeastern OK and southwestern Arkansas vicinity where low level moisture may be increasing but these small chances will remain too far removed for the metro region.

The latest and greatest data continue to reinforce a few runs from last week. The ridge of high pressure is expected to weaken and slide westward again this weekend.  This may allow another weak front to far northern OK Sunday into this time next week with a chance for a few storms across northern OK and southern Kansas.

Heat Advisories Issued

We’ll introduce a slight pop for the Sunday period.

Temperatures for the week will be steady with lows in the mid to upper 70s for morning lows.   Daytime highs will be in the mid to upper 90s today and Tuesday with 100 to 103 possible from Wednesday through Saturday.   The heat index values will be approaching advisory level criteria soon, and advisories are likely to be issued today and this week.

Numbers from 105 to 110 may be possible Tuesday through Friday.  Regardless, you should continue to keep hydrated and take plenty of breaks from outdoor activities for the next few days as this oppressive heat and humidity begin building into the area for the next few days.

Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
