Republican Convention Kicks Off In Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio -

The Republican party's national convention kicks off Monday. In all, over 50,000 people are expected to flood Cleveland for the big event.

The convention theme for day one is "Make America Safe Again" and will highlight the party's counterterrorism and immigration platforms as they relate to national security.

Headline speakers include: Melania Trump, retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, military veteran Jason Beardsley, and Rep. Ryan Zinke of Montana.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will also speak, along with Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas, Marine veterans who fought in Benghazi, actor Scott Baio, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, reality television star Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty, and immigration reform advocates.

Donald Trump is expected to officially claim the GOP nomination Thursday. Cleveland Police have 500 officers assigned to the convention, and thousands more are traveling there to help.

Oklahoma oilman Harold Hamm is expected to speak Wednesday, and Governor Mary Fallin is expected to speak on Thursday,

CBS News will broadcast all four nights of the convention during prime time from 9 to 10 p.m.
