TULSA, Oklahoma -

North Tulsa could see some much-needed neighborhood improvements.

But, before the Tulsa Development Authority moves forward on what it calls a sector plan, neighbors need to weigh in.

In nearly 80 pages, the Tulsa Development Authority lays out the north Tulsa neighborhood plan. It's been nearly 20 years since the last sector overhaul, and neighbors are ready for an upgrade.

"Having the opportunity to grow and develop a neighborhood from which I came from, how can I not be excited,” said O.C. Walker with the TDA.

For a year and a half, working with the 60-member Citizens Advisory Team, the TDA developed the plan.

It includes building new homes in a plot across the street from Lacy Park, improving area parks, and street light improvements along Peoria.

But transportation is Daniel Starrett's major concern.

"As you can see I'm on a cane," he said.

To get to the grocery store, the nearest bus stop is a mile away. Other rides can take several hours.

Starrett said, "They've taken a lot of stops off the bus route, like the zoo."

He said, when it comes to making improvements there's always a solution, but there has to be community and leadership support.

"There’s been a lot of talk and I have not really seen anything happen," Starrett said.

The plan approval could take three to six months. First, the TDA needs more community feedback, then, the city council and planning commission gets involved.

Walker said, "In these plans, I won't say it's once in a lifetime, but once in a generation, to have the opportunity to embark on something like this."

The TDA is working on a sector plan for the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood. You can find more information here.
