TULSA, Oklahoma -

At the end of the month, Tulsa will hold the first 5k run with a theme built around the wildly popular ‘Pokemon Go’ game.

It started as on Tulsa’s small idea, but there are already more than 800 runners signed up. Now, the big event will be raising money for charity.

Kelsey Quick loves running; and the day the game came out, she was debating whether or not she felt like getting a jog in.

“As soon as I saw it was released I downloaded it and started running and ran three miles without even realizing it,” she said.

So, she thought about inviting some running friends to LaFortune Park to get in some fun and fitness.

Three days after posting that on Facebook, there were thousands of people interested.

It seems Quick underestimated the popularity of her idea; so she went right to the county and expedited a permit to hold the ‘Pokemon Go’ 5K in LaFortune Park.

"Usually, these things have to be 60-90 days out, and I've got two weeks," she said.

But, she has fellow Pokemon fans helping her out, and a community excited to take a game everyone seems to be playing and make it into something that will raise money for Tulsa charity - James Mission.

Honestly, I was a hair trigger away from saying no, but we got it all squared away," Quick said.

This is not a Pokemon sponsored race, it's fan sponsored.
