Over 75 employers are in Muskogee for the annual job fair.

The job fair runs until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Muskogee Civic Center. Although everyone is invited, organizers say with such a large veteran population, the city thought it best to give veterans extra attention.

Having 75 employers in one location takes a lot of stress off the veterans.

In many cases, job applications are completed online. Often the veterans are competing with hundreds of applicants, making the job process a challenge.

Organizers also are using the job fair to dispel beliefs that veterans have a difficult time transitioning from a life in the military to life as a civilian.

“I'm committed to helping these guys learn how to transition their military skills how to translate them to a civilian employer,” U.S. Army Capt. Scott Williams said. “Cause what they've done have great relevance. Some of these guys have great soft skills in terms of the responsibility."

Organizers say they hope businesses all around the state open their eyes to benefits of hiring veterans.
