The Heat Is On In Northeast Oklahoma

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Heat index values reached 110 yesterday afternoon across southern Tulsa county near Bixby and heat values from 100 to 106 may be possible again today across eastern OK with dew points in the upper 60s and lower 70s and daytime highs near 100.

NWS is holding off on issuing a heat advisory for today due to possible mixing ( drying) of local dew points. But the message should not change:  remain hydrated.  Advisories may be required later.

The mid-level ridge of high pressure over the state is the main feature of interest but a few isolated pop up storms will remain possible across extreme eastern OK for the next few days. The chances will remain very low but if a storm does develop it could produce heavy rainfall and the possibility of damaging downbursts of winds.

Weather Alerts

Most data will keep the ridge basically in place for the rest of the week but some weakness around the ridge will be possible with the 12kNAM most noticeable by Friday. This means a few storms can’t totally be ruled out.  A strong upper level system is moving across the northern part of the county into southern Canada with a cold front positioned across the central U.S. into the Rockies.  Part of this boundary will slide near northwestern OK into central Kansas today with a few storms possible across northwestern OK.  Some data will also bring a few storms across extreme eastern OK and western Arkansas later today and we’ll keep any mentions for our area at or less than 10%.

Temperatures will not change much but will slowly increase with morning lows in the upper 70s in the metro today and tomorrow before reaching the 80-degree mark Thursday through the weekend.   Daytime highs will be near 100 and around 100 to 102 for the remainder of the week along with heat index values from 105 to 110.   Some data increased low level moisture by the end of the week.

We may see a minor yet noticeable pattern change early next week with some not as hot air and a few storms.

We’re also watching a possible developing tropical system in the southern Caribbean this morning.   This disturbance will more than likely blossom into Tropical Storm Earl and may draw near the Yucatan peninsula during the next 72 hours.

Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
