An Owasso family is without a home after Saturday morning's thunderstorms.

Lightning lit up the sky as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

Three people and a dog made it out safely Saturday morning.

"My little cousin Shelby said she woke up and in the backyard she just heard a noise and it was on fire,” the homeowner's nephew Aaron Nance recalled. “She woke everybody up and they got out as fast as they could, and they got the dog out, the dog Benny, so everybody was okay thank God."

Nance's aunt, Kim Eaton, built the home with her family in 1992.

"It's been here for about 24 years,” said Nance. “I used to come out here on Thanksgiving and Christmas. There's a lot of good memories here."

For a home without a roof, rain quickly became the next problem, soaking things inside that just burned.

But, from upstairs, the family was able to save war medals from WWI passed down through the family.

Friends helped sift through photos and personal items.

"There was some old, I think, China, and just some kid stuff,” stated Nance. “My aunt's got three kids, so we're going through all that stuff."

Others helped with heavy lifting, getting furniture out of the house and into a moving van.

Aaron said his aunt and the rest of the family inside during the storm were too shaken to talk on camera, but said they are all just thankful the lightning strike didn't hurt anyone.

"Glad everybody's okay,” said Nance. “That's all we can ask for."

His aunt is not sure if she will rebuild.
