TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tuesday marked two years since a Ferguson, Missouri police officer shot and killed Michael Brown.

In Tulsa, a group took time out to remember Brown's legacy as several people piled into the Church of Restoration on Greenwood Avenue.

August 9th, 2014, the world first saw the images of Michael Brown lying lifeless in the street. Brown is accused of attacking an Officer Darren Wilson.

Wilson fired the deadly shot and was later acquitted of any wrongdoing; a decision that some say magnified Brown's death and started a movement to improve police and public relations.

"I believe it set the Black Lives Matter movement, without a doubt, but I think these types of murders have been happening for decades but they've been dormant because we haven't had the tool of social media to actually put it out there so people could see," said Ron Halford with the Tulsa United League for Social Action.

Halford was one of many people who showed up to the Church of Restoration for the Holding Space for Michael Brown event.

"There's been so many other tragedies similar to that in the last two years and that's a part of the reason for this gathering, is to make sure the community doesn't forget," he said.

Although the shooting happened in Missouri, it's impacted every corner of America - sparking protests, vigils and riots.

While some disagree with Brown's role in the movement, Halford said there's been change, and that's important.

"We're a lot better than we were 10, 15, 50 years ago; we've made a lot of improvements. Things are a lot better than they were, but the fact of the matter, things can get better," he said.
