Tulsa grew by more than 700 people Sunday as a new class of freshman moved into their dorms at the University of Tulsa. This class stands out above any other that's come through the university.

On freshman move-in day at TU, loads of clothes, boxes and bedding made their way into Hardesty hall. It's a university tradition for the whole campus to help new students get all their stuff into the dorms.

Even President Designate Dr. Gerard Clancy and his family are helping.

"The most unique one we've seen is a set of championship bowling balls," Dr. Clancy said.

Clancy said this class of students is quite special.

"They're smartest, brightest group of freshman we've ever had here. The average ACT for this class is 30, and we're extremely proud of that," he said.

Lauren Milbourn is one of those bright students. She's comes to Oklahoma from Missouri on a full ride academic scholarship.

"I'm very thankful for that and very honored to represent TU in that way," Milbourn said.

She's also excited to make new friends - like her new roommate.

"Yeah, we really just kind of hit it off and have a lot in common," she said.

Classes don't start here until August 22nd, so this week is all about getting to know each other and getting comfortable in their new home.

"Within a week or two, they're gonna settle in, they're gonna have great friends, and they're gonna start learning like they've never learned before," said Dr. Gerard Clancy, University of Tulsa president designate.

Maddie Dean may be a Texan, but she said there's no place she'd rather be than Tulsa.

"Really excited," she said. "The people, the town, everything. It just felt like home and felt like I needed to be here."
