Wagoner County Sergeant Recognized For Quick Thinking That Saved Life

A sergeant for the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office was recognized for quick thinking that helped save a life.

According to a news release, Sergeant Cody Standifird was patrolling near the Coal Creek area south of Wagoner when he saw an SUV parked in the grass near a riverbank with the hatch open.

When Standifird approached the vehicle, he saw a man lying inside the vehicle with blood covering his face and head and he was gasping for air, the release says.

The sergeant noticed the man was having a medical issued and rolled him on his side to clear the fluids from his airway then called an ambulance.

According to the release, the man, Robert Lewis Potter Jr., stopped breathing and Standifird moved him to the ground and began CPR.

The release says Sergeant Standifird continued to work on Potter until EMS arrived and took him to a hospital. Potter is now listed in stable condition.
