Controversy is surrounding State Question 788, the medical marijuana initiative, and whether it will even make the November ballot.

But an Oklahoma mother wants to put a face to that state question and to remind voters and state leaders the need for this alternative drug.

Supporters of the medical marijuana initiative said new language for the state question is misleading to voters. They worry it will prevent many Oklahomans from getting the help they need.

Like most 8-year-old girls, Graceyn loves to play with dolls and play dress up with her makeup, but unlike most girls her age seizures keep her awake most nights.

Graceyn was born hemiplegic cerebral palsy and epilepsy is a common complication of the neurological disorder.

“One night when she was 5 years old, she came into our room and she kind of didn't look right. We laid her down with us and that was our first seizure,” said Mindy Kennedy, Graceyn’s mother.

That night, Graceyn's seizure lasted for 15 minutes and they've continued. It's why her mother, and so many others, push to ensure State Question 788 makes the November ballot.

“I want you to see her face. And I want you to read that question and think if this is my daughter, if this is my granddaughter, my niece or my cousin. How would I say no to this?” said Kennedy.

Graceyn takes eight different medications every day to prevent her seizures, but her mother believes cannabis oil prescribed by her doctor here in Oklahoma may be the key to ending all seizures without harsh medication.

“I don’t want to take so many medicine,” Graceyn said.

“We want our doctors who have walked along side us for the last eight years to be able to prescribe that to her and to be able to monitor that for her without us having to go out of state,” said her mother

With a doctor's orders, Graceyn and her family are headed to Colorado to bring back CBD oil, but the hope that will be their only trip.

There's growing concern the measure won't make the deadline for this year's ballot and that it will more likely be up for a vote in 2018.
