OSU Prepares For Southeastern Louisiana's Option Offense

It's been long enough. The Cowboys are ready to hit someone else.

"We've been practicing for a while now, and I think we're going to be prepared for it," said defensive end Jordan Brailford.

But just who is that someone?

There's no history between Oklahoma State and the other team that will take the field in Stillwater on Saturday, at least not in football.

Southeastern Louisiana is a member of the Southland Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision, and the Lions feature an old-school option attack that can give defenses fits.

That's some of what OSU is expecting. The Lions have a new offensive coordinator who's shown some similar tendencies.

"You never know what the head coach came in and told him,” said defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer. “’Hey, I know you do this but we want this as our base.’ So you don't know, and you aren't going to know exactly until the first series or two."

"I think it will be a fun challenge,” stated linebacker Chad Whitener. “I think it will show us how disciplined we are in our assignments."

Head coach Mike Gundy says his team hasn’t seen any option in preseason.

"The team we're going to play, in my opinion, is going to try to run the ball and a variety of what they use is option,” said Gundy.

So, what are the opinions of most in college football?

The Cowboys shouldn't have much of a problem and should be able to put a lot of different players on the field. Among them are as many as six true freshmen for a team opening at home for the first time in four years.
